NEW HAVEN, CT. (January 28, 2013) — As all sides of the post-Newtown violence debate converge on the state Capitol, people from all sides of the issue will convene in a New Haven school for a thoughtful, respectful and passionate debate about where Connecticut should go next in the search for solutions. WTNH News 8 is holding a town meeting in conjunction with the New Haven Independent , to discuss the issues raised by the Sandy Hook tragedy. After Sandy Hook: In Search of Answers will be broadcast live from the New Haven’s Cooperative Arts & Humanities High School, on January 30th at 4pm.
A wide range of people touched by the mass violence -- high school students; the mother of a child lost to gun violence; a Republican state senator from Southington, a police chief; a state social worker; the man responsible for responding to the 1998 Newington lottery massacre; a Yale child mental health expert -- will explore the issue and answer questions from audience members.
“The tragedy at Sandy Hook has shaken Connecticut and our nation to the core,” said Mark Higgins, Vice-President and General Manager of WTNH/WCTX. “ After Sandy Hook: In Search of Answers, is the first step in News 8’s attempt to help the state heal, and find answers which could help keep all of our families safe for generations to come.”
The town meeting will be televised live by WTNH News 8 without commercial interruption and streamed live on www.WTNH.com. The event will be moderated by News 8 anchor, Keith Kountz. Viewers at home can join the discussion in real-time. A panel of statewide journalists and New Haven's mayor will lead an online live discussion of the event as it unfolds. After Sandy Hook: In Search of Answers is free and open to the public. Doors will open at 3:30 p.m. and will remain open as long as seats remain available. There event takes place at Cooperative Arts & Humanities High School at College and Crown Streets in New Haven.
