New Haven, Conn. (WTNH) - How do meteorologists predict the weather? Do they rely on computer models or do the look out the window? The answer is-- both. Storm Team 8 explains weather technology in part three of News 8’s weather mini-series, Connecticut Weather: On the Edge, airing Friday, May 13th, at 11:20pm on News 8.
The highlight of this installment of Connecticut Weather: On the Edge is an introduction to Dr. Mel’s Storm Predictor. The Storm Predictor is a weather tool conceived by Dr. Mel Goldstein over 40 years ago, and he has been perfecting it ever since. This tool analyzes copious amounts of data and forecasts the exact weather for an area, sometimes even predicting tornadoes before the National Weather Service.
This episode of Connecticut Weather: On the Edge gives viewers an inside look at the technology used by Storm Team 8. We hear from the meteorologists what it is like predicting Connecticut’s weather on a daily basis. Viewers also get an inside look at News 8’s storm center on wheels, the Mobile Weather Lab.
Connecticut Weather: On the Edge is a four part mini-series explaining our state’s weather. Throughout the series, Storm Team 8 meteorologists, Dr. Mel Goldstein, Gil Simmons, Steve MacLaughlin, Steve Villanueva, and Erica Grow discuss how the combination of technology and experience is what enables them to predict the weather.
Part three of Connecticut Weather: On the Edge will air at 11:20pm on Friday, May13th on News 8. This series, hosted by News 8’s Darren Kramer, features the expertise of News 8’s team of meteorologists, Storm Team 8.
