(WTNH) - This week's Wednesday's Child is 16-year-old Kevin, who is looking for a family that shares his love of life.
He has a long list of interests and hobbies, but none bigger than his interest in cars. For such a young guy, Kevin seems to know an awful lot about old cars.
Mike Scheidel knows a thing or two about old cars, too. He's built or rebuilt dozens of classics and agreed to give Kevin a one-on-one tour of his garage.
"There's a GTO, a Trans Am, a 68 Firebird 400."
This is just a snippet of a conversation that went on for a couple of hours. And as passionate as Kevin is about cars, he does have other interests. He plays soccer, likes to read and ride his bike, and he loves the outdoors.
"He's definitely a kid who loves to go and do things, enjoy things. He loves nature, as you see by him catching grasshoppers,” said Katie Churchill, a DCF social worker.
“He's been wandering around here looking at nature. He loves cars. So getting him out doing those kinds of things and he's going have a blast."
For the past few years, Kevin has been living in a residential facility and is ready now to live with a family. What he needs is somebody with the patience to help him make that transition.
Those who know Kevin say his inquisitive and sweet disposition will make it all worthwhile.
"He's going to be somebody who you're going to be able to really make a nice relationship with,” Katie Churchill added. “You're going to be rewarded by parenting him and caring for him."
And while a garage full of hot rods would be nice, all Kevin really wants is the love of a family.
