Author Ryan Boyle shares his autobiography and remarkable story of overcoming physical adversity.
In October of 2003, Ryan became the victim of a traumatic brain injury, when he was hit and dragged by a pickup truck while riding a Big Wheel at a friend’s party in Monroe. Emergency brain surgery saved his life, but he lost a portion of the back of his brain. At the age of 10, Ryan had to learn how to breathe, swallow, talk, eat, stand, walk, - everything – all over again.
In 'When The Lights Go Out' ( www.ryanboyle.me ), Ryan describes his therapies—what’s worked, what hasn’t, and why — and shares how he learned to cope with his physical, emotional, spiritual and psychological challenges.
In the process, he has discovered the critical roles that faith in God, love of family, the healing power of friends, and the inherent goodness of people all played in his ability to triumph over overwhelming odds. Ryan has also learned that a horrific accident has given him an amazing opportunity to give. 'When the Lights Go Out is an expression of that gift'.
When Ryan wrote his book during the summer of his freshmen year of high school, he knew that he wanted to speak about his road of recovery and share his story of inspiration. He has spoken at his school in Georgia, Clemson University, and Safe America, and where he went for his driving classes.
