Bring color to a summer garden

Published : Thursday, 12 Jul 2012, 2:03 PM EDT

(WTNH) -- Gardening Expert Colleen Plimpton is continuing color in summer gardens.

We're in the midst of a prolonged heat spell with insufficient rainfall. Many ornamental gardens are looking like has-been's already. Plimpton will show how using rugged, long-blooming yet lovely perennials, shrubs and annuals can brighten up the flower garden.

Many gardeners throw up their hands come the dog days of summer, but with just a bit of planning the garden can remain colorful all summer with a minimum of care. The secret is choosing drought-tolerant material so you're not chained to the hose and watering can.

Plimpton is having an Open Garden Day on Sunday July 15 and Sunday, August 12th from 1- 5p.m. All are invited. For more information, visit her website, www.colleenplimpton.com .
