Celebrating Columbus Day in New Haven

Published : Friday, 05 Oct 2012, 12:30 PM EDT

(WTNH) -- For the first time in New Haven's history, there will be a huge festival to celebrate Columbus Day.

Columbus Day celebrates not only the great Renaissance explorer, but the beginning of a cultural exchange that has help to shape the United States.

Mario Coppola, President of the Columbus Day Committee, says the festival will have numerous venders, incredible food and entertainment.

The activities are great for people of all ages, including children. Mario says it's one of the largest Columbus Day celebrations in the country.

It all gets kicked off with a big parade at noon on the New Haven green. The parade ends at 1 p.m. in Wooster Square, where the balance of the festival will continue through 5 p.m.
