(WTNH) - United Way gives families, students, and adults the opportunity to make a difference in their own neighborhoods, while learning about the mission and needs of non-profit agencies in the community.
The United Ways' Days of Caring is an annual Volunteer Engagement initiative to get volunteers from all over Greater New Haven to join hands to clean parks, paint houses, read to children and deliver meals to homebound seniors. Kids from Hillhouse High School even pitched in to tackle the demolition of abandoned homes!
Over their summer break, over 40 members of James Hillhouse High School’s football team participated in a United Way volunteer project by working alongside the Neighborhood Housing Services of New Haven to assist with the demolition of two homes in the Newhallville section of New Haven.
Together, UWGNH and Hillhouse are creating opportunities for a better life for families, students, parents, teachers, neighborhoods and the whole community.
