Friends of Jimmy Miller Foundation

Published : Monday, 26 Nov 2012, 6:03 PM EST

Jimmy Miller was an orphan raised by St. Francis Home in New Haven.  After serving in the SeaBees in WWII, Jimmy returned home to Connecticut and visited St. Francis at Christmas time and made a donation – a token of appreciation for all they had done for him.  Over the years, Jimmy would have dinner with his friends at the holidays and would match any donation they made to St. Francis.  The ritual grew to the point where matching was an impossibility and the organization, Friends of Jimmy Miller, was formed.  Last year, the organization grossed $195,000 with 100% of the net proceeds distributed to programs that benefit children in crisis.

This year, after the closing of St. Francis Home for Children, the committee has decided to form a trust for the purpose of helping children in crisis.  In addition to numerous other charities throughout the state, the Amity Charitable Trust, will be funded by some of the proceeds raised through the Friends of Jimmy Miller Foundation.
