On October 20th and 21st, the
Blackstone Library in Brandford, CT will once again be transformed into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Last year hundreds of Harrys and Hermiones visited Ollivander's Wand Shop, took classes in Divination, Potions and Charms, and tried out some wizardly crafts. This year we expect 400 children at events on both Saturday and Sunday and have new classes planned like Care of Magical Creatures, but will repeat the best parts of last year's event.
On Saturday evening, there will also be an event just for grownups. A Hint of Hogwarts is an adult-only night of sinful spells and deadly company. The evening will feature all the fun of the kids events plus magical music, killer silent auction, potent potions, and delectable delicacies, all in the Hogwarts castle, classrooms and Great Hall. Everyone will have a chance to visit Ollivander's and be matched to the perfect wand. Are you curious about what the future might hold for you? Stop by the Divination classroom and Professor Trelawney will read your tarot cards.
The James Blackstone Memorial Library was completed in 1896 and is said to have cost about $300,000. The library was dedicated on June 17, 1896, and the next day it was opened for use with a stock of 5,000 books. Today our monthly circulation numbers are close to 50,000 items. In August 600 children attended events at the library. We see hundreds of patrons a day, many without internet access at home, job-searchers who don't know how to conduct a job search because it's been 20 years since they last looked.
