Jamie Wieland, Owner and CEO of Connecticut In Home Assistance, was in the studio to highlight the needs of Senior Citizens during times of crisis like Hurricane Sandy. It’s so important for seniors and their caregivers to be prepared for storms and potential power outage situations. It’s very difficult to find suitable shelter during or after a storm has struck. Travel can be very difficult for caregivers during and after a severe storm situation and seniors may find themselves stuck with no power, no heat, nowhere to go or no way to get there.
That’s why it’s so important to be prepared. A checklist for seniors in storms and in winter should include an alternate plan of care when the power is out, an evacuation plan and a location to stay (look into local shelters and senior centers in your area), a list of emergency contacts, adequate supplies of medication / food / cash / etc and a charged cell phone so they can make phone calls are among others.
Connecticut In Home Assistance has been in business for 13 years with offices in Hamden and Trumbull. They are a family owned and operated homecare agency with over 450 employees and can provide services anywhere from two hours a day to round-the-clock care.
As a way of giving back to the senior community, Connecticut In Home Assistance would like viewers to nominate 2 senior citizens to receive FREE homecare for the month of December. Please call 1-855-412-CARE(2273), email Jamie@cthomecare.com or visit their website for more information and to nominate a special senior.
