Friend of the show, Chef and Entertainer, Neil Fuentes was in the kitchen sharing an old family recipe for Venezuelan Arepas.
Venezuelan Arepas
Ingredients:
2 cups of Masarina
2 cups of water
1 tsp of salt
Directions:
Place the water in a mixing bowl. Add the flour and the salt to it. Let the Flour absorb the water for a couple of minutes. Mix well and knead until forming a smooth dough.
Make balls with the dough about the size of a large meatball or a small orange.
Wet your hands, grab one of these balls and form a disk of about 1 inch thick.
Baked: Place the arepa on a greased hot skillet and cook for about 5 minutes on each side. Then place in a 350 degree oven for about 15 minutes.
Fried: Place the arepa in a frying pan with hot vegetable or canola oil. Fry until they are golden on both sides.
Open the arepas like a pocket and stuff with your favorite meats, fish, or veggies.
