Apple Crisp

Published : Wednesday, 28 Sep 2011, 1:54 PM EDT

The Guilford Civic Women are having their 30th annual Harvest Festival on the Guilford Green on October 15th. There are fun things for kids to do, great crafts for everyone to buy, and of course their famous apple crisp.

Apple Crisp

Ingredients
36 Apples
6 cups Flour
6 teaspoons Baking Powder
4 ½ cups WHITE Sugar
2 teaspoons Salt
6 unbeaten Eggs (medium or large only)
3 sticks Butter (not margarine)
Cinnamon

Peel and core 36 apples. Slice no more than ¼ inch thick and place in bottom of large baking pan.

In a separate bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and eggs. Mix thoroughly until crumbly. Sprinkle carefully over the top of the apples. Do NOT mix into the apples.

Just before baking, melt the 3 sticks of butter and pour over the top of the mixture.
Sprinkle lightly with cinnamon.

Bake uncovered in a preheated oven at 375° F for 1 hour or until the top is crisp and lightly browned. (Check apples with fork to make sure they are soft.)
