Throw a fabulous Oscar party

Published : Friday, 25 Feb 2011, 11:04 AM EST

(WTNH) - Katy Atlas has tips for a fun and fabulous Oscar party.

Oscar night is all about glamour, but with a few great recipes and a killer outfit, you can recreate it at home!

Celebs pick out ballgowns in gorgeous jewel tones, as we've seen on the red carpet, from Natalie Portman's pink and red gown for the Golden Globes to Mila Kunis's gorgeous emerald stunner. But one easy way to recreate that rainbow is with food! By focusing on brightly colored, fresh ingredients like my tomato mozzarella skewers, you can reference those gorgeous colors without spending thousands on an evening gown!

Easy, Bite Size Pieces: Nobody wants anything spilled on their fabulous Oscar-wear, least of all you! Stick to appetizers that are easy to eat and portable, so that your guests can nibble while they watch!

Sparkle: If there's a night to break out the sequins or sparkle, this is it! Oscar night is like New Year's -- the perfect occasion to dress totally over the top. So pull out that stunner dress that you never have an occasion to wear, and throw it on! Or stick with a simple dress and add some sparkle through a bag or a statement necklace -- either way, you'll look like you belong in Los Angeles this season!

Tomato, Mozzarella and Basil Skewer Recipe

Ingredients:
1 pint pear tomatoes, cut in half
1/3 pound fresh mozzarella, cut into small wedges
24 small basil leaves, preferably large (some will be cut in half)
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
2 tbsp good balsamic vinegar
2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
Wooden toothpicks

Directions:
Thread a half of one tomato onto a skewer, add a wedge of mozzarella and a basil leaf and finish with the other half of the tomato. Repeat until the tomatoes are used up, and then set the completed skewers on a platter. Drizzle with olive oil, sea salt and balsamic vinegar.
