Learn how to perform CPR

Published : Monday, 04 Jun 2012, 2:15 PM EDT

(WTNH) - Learn how to perform CPR.

June 1-7 is National CPR/AED Awareness Week. It's a time to emphasize the importance of knowing about sudden cardiac arrest and how to perform CPR.

Sudden cardiac arrest occurs when a person's heart stops unexpectedly. It happens almost 400,000 times each year, 88% of the time at home. Many victims appear healthy and have no known heart disease or risk factors.

About 70% of Americans do not know how to perform CPR or their training has significantly lapsed.

Early recognition of cardiac arrest, early high-quality and uninterrupted CPR, early use of an automated defibrillator, and early advanced life support make up the chain of survival for sudden cardiac arrest.

A Heartsaver CPR certification course will be held on Saturday June 9 at 9:00 AM at Code One's New Haven office located at 30 Hazel Terrace in Woodbridge. The course is 2 hours and includes a book and pocket mask. The cost is $45/person. Registration is online at www.code1web.com/cprweek

Call 860.786.1789 or visit www.codeoneweb.com to learn more.
