(WTNH) -- The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp is celebrating it's 25th anniversary.
Paul Newman founded The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in 1988. His idea was to build a camp where the children could “raise a little hell” and recapture some of their childhood lost to treatments and isolation. It worked better than anyone could ever have imagined.
The Camp provides a different kind of healing to children and families coping with cancer, sickle cell anemia and other serious illnesses.
That first summer, the Camp served 288 children. Today, Camp is a year-round program serving 20,000 children and family members at Camp and in hospitals across the Northeast.
The Camp will kick off a year-long 25th anniversary celebration at its September Gala at the Camp in Ashford.
Tickets are still available for the simulcast Fandango performance in the dining hall and may be purchased by calling Amanda Garbatini at the Camp’s New Haven office at (203) 772-0522 x22.
