(WTNH) - Women who take certain osteoporosis medications may get an extra health bonus: a lower risk for breast cancer.
But, a new study also shows there's a catch. Researchers say women who took osteoporosis drugs like Fosamax and Boniva for more than two-years cut their breast cancer risk by nearly 40-percent.
These benefits were not seen, however, in women who are considered obese.
Experts think higher levels of estrogen in obese women may counteract any effects from bone-strengthening drugs.
