Orange (WTNH) - The state wants to give you some cash back for saving energy. Starting today if you replace some old appliances with new, energy efficient ones, you'll get a rebate.
The money comes from the federal government through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act . The state is using $3.4 million to give rebates to people who go out and buy major appliances that meet Energy Star standards.
The more you spend, the more you get back, from $50 for a room air conditioner to $500 for a whole new central air conditioning system.
The Energy Star appliances that qualify include refrigerators, clothes washers, freezers, room air conditioners - up to 3 in one home - and central air conditioners.
This offer starts today, Jan. 25th, and is good through April 30th.
There are some forms you have to fill out and send in with model numbers and proof of purchase. The idea is to stimulate the economy a little by getting people shopping. Experts say with the more efficient appliances, you could save up to $75 a year on your electric bill.
