BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — Bridgeport has lured Bass Pro Shops as its first tenant to Steel Point, a long dormant waterfront site that the city is redeveloping.
The Connecticut Post reports Mayor Bill Finch and Gov. Dannel P. Malloy's office confirmed Thursday that Bass Pro Shops will be Steel Point's first tenant.
Officials hope the store will open by Christmas 2013 and will encourage other tenants to locate to the mixed-use Steel Point project after decades of fits and starts.
Finch said Bass Pro will generate 150 construction jobs and 300 full- and part-time jobs and lure millions of visitors to the location by highway, train, ferry and private boat, who will then eat, sleep and shop in the city and region.
Bass Pro sells fishing, boating, hunting and camping equipment.
