Experts warn about text scam

WTNH---  There is a text messaging scam going around that involves getting a text from a big store telling you you've won a gift card, just to get your information.

While it sounds like a holiday treat, it's one of the top five scams going around right now. The message usually tells you to visit a website and use a PIN number. Then it wants your personal information.

Experts say don't buy into it.

"We hear people get caught up in the hype. They want to believe that they've won this thousand dollars and before they know it, they've given away their personal information and credit card information as well. Just don't do it," said Peggy Penders from the Better Business Bureau.

If you're wondering how scammers got your number, it's because they are sending messages out to tens of thousands of random numbers and yours may just happen to be one of them.

Experts say don't reply and just delete the message.
