Branford, Conn. (WTNH) -

The Friendly's restaurant in Branford and in eight other towns closed their doors for good, a few months after the company closed dozens of other locations nationwide.

A sign taped to the door of the Branford Friendly's said "Thank you for your patronage. This restaurant has permanently closed."

The nine restaurants which closed Sunday night are:

  • Branford, Leetes Island Road
  • Clinton, West Main Street
  • Glastonbury, Main Street
  • Manchester, Spencer Street
  • Middletown, Washington Plaza
  • North Haven, Washington Avenue
  • Norwich, West Main Street
  • Wallingford, North Colony Road
  • Waterbury, Watertown Avenue

Back in October the chain filed for bankruptcy and closed 63 locations across the country, including several in Connecticut. In a statement to News 8, Friendly's spokeswoman Maura Tobias said they have been trying to restructure their leases with their landlords. In some cases they did, but they could not reach an agreement for others so the company decided to close the stores listed above.

"We regret that this decision has become necessary, and we appreciate the hard work and dedication of the Friendly's employees at these locations and intend to accommodate as many as possible at nearby operating restaurants, where available," Tobias said.
