Hartford, Conn. (WTNH) - About 100 people in Connecticut were laid off today as Pocket Wireless announced their plans to cease operations as of October 31.
Pocket Wireless, which formed in 2006 in Texas, has already closed 43 stores. Ten stores in Connecticut and Massachusetts will be closing on October 31. The laid off employees will be receiving two weeks of severance.
The company says increased competition and the recession are among the reasons they will be closing.
New customers who have purchased phones within the past 30 days will have 30 days to return their phones and get their money back. Customers who wish to keep their service active until October 31st may make partial payments at one of the 10 remaining retail stores or authorized dealer locations.
