Trumbull, Conn. (WTNH) - Many Trumbull residents are not happy with the plans to put in a fuel cell plant in their backyard.
FuelCell Energy wants to build the plant at the current Southern Connecticut Gas site on Huntington Turnpike and Primrose.
"Put it in an industrial area if you want to do an experiment, don't use us as guinea pigs," said Richard Moore of Trumbull.
Carrie O'Brien of Trumbull was greeting people at the door of Madison Middle School, asking folks to sign her petition as they headed into the hearing. She's worried that an explosion like the one in Middletown in February could happen in her neighborhood.
"It's a power plant in the middle of homes, not a place for it to be," she said.
Homeowners promise to take the fight all the way to the Connecticut Siting Council who will make the ultimate decision if the plant is built or not.
