Trumbull, Connecticut (WTNH) - Gov. Jodi Rell (R) says she does not approve of a new fuel cell energy plant which would be built in a residential neighborhood in Trumbull.
FuelCell Energy wants to build the plant at the current Southern Connecticut Gas site on Huntington Turnpike. Residents say it's not the place, and in a letter to the Trumbull First Selectman, Rell says she agrees.
"I agree that this proposed site placement in the historic Nichols residential neighborhood is inappropriate given environmental concerns. That this facility would depend on high-pressure natural gas flowing through 50-year-old pipes is troubling, to say the least," Rell said.
Rell says the Department of Economic and Community Development will work with the town to find a more suitable site.
