9/11 Events Across the State

(WTNH) -- The following are events being held across the state to remember those who lost their lives on September 11th.

Avon

  • The Avon Volunteer Fire Department will host a memorial service commemorating the lives lost and the heroism displayed during the terrorist attacks on our nation. The program will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Company 1, located at 25 Darling Drive.

Bridgeport

  • Mayor Bill Finch, Fire Chief Brian Rooney and Police Chief Joseph L. Gaudett will mark the 11th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001 with a brief speaking program, and the reading of the names of the firefighters, police officers and first responders who lost their lives in the attack. The event will begin at 10 a.m., in the park outside the Margaret E. Morton Government Center, located at 999 Broad St.

East Haven

  • At 10 a.m. Tuttle students will march to Town Hall, flags in hand to celebrate "We Love America Day". The Superintendent, Mayor, Police Chief and officers, Fire Chief and officers will join the Tuttle School family in honoring the heroes and those lives lost on 9/11.

Enfield

  • Enfield Fire Department will host a September 11th parade followed by a ceremony. The parade will begin at 5 p.m. at Porter & Chester Institute and end at the Enfield Fire Department Station #2, at which time the ceremony will begin.

Fairfield

  • Fairfield Fire Department will host a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at 9 a.m. at the memorial to the first responders lost on September 11th, 2001 created using steel obtained from the debris recovered from the World Trade Center site. The simple ceremony will take place in front of Fire Headquarters, 140 Reef Road in Fairfield.
  • Fairfield University commemorates the 11-year anniversary of 9/11 with a "Day of Remembrance" that features campus-wide events taking place throughout the day. Beginning with an Interfaith Prayer Service at 9 a.m., the day's events include a Memorial Mass at noon, continuous screenings of "Rising: Rebuilding Ground Zero," the exhibition opening "Dalton Ghetti: Remembering 9/11" at the Bellarmine Museum of Art, a Reflection Wall, and "Reconciliation: The Mary Initiative," which includes a screening of the film "Three Faiths, Two Stories, One Woman," followed by discussion and a light dinner.

Middletown

  • The South Fire District will be holding a ceremony and groundbreaking at 10 a.m. to remember the events of the 9-11-2001 terrorist attacks and all those that gave their lives that day. The ceremony will take place in front of the steel beam from one of the Twin Towers that was unveiled last year.

Milford

  • The City of Milford will remember the events of September 11, 2001 with a simple ceremony of song and prayer. The event will begin at 10 a.m. at Live Oaks School's World Trade Center Memorial Garden, 575 Merwin Avenue.

New Haven

  • The Undergraduate Student Government Association at UNH will be hosting the annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony in the Maxcy Quad by the Marvin K. Peterson Library at 11 a.m.

Meriden

  • New Life Church will host the "11th Annual City of Meriden's 9/11 Memorial Service" at 6:30 p.m., at New Life Church, located at 262 Bee St.

Norwalk

  • The city will participate in a ceremony outside of the front of City Hall at 8:30 a.m.

Stamford

  • At 9:30 a.m. the Stamford Fire & Rescue Department and the Stamford Professional Fire Fighters Association will hold a 9/11 Memorial Observance in front of Station 5, at 1620 Washington Blvd.
  • As part of the Association's annual Day of Service, more than 20 AARP Connecticut staff and volunteers will commemorate the anniversary of September 11 by teaming up with the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County to sort, check and organize donated food in the Food Bank's warehouse located at 461 Glenbrook Road in Stamford from 10 a.m. to noon.

West Haven

  • The city will observe the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks Tuesday with a solemn flag-raising ceremony and candlelight vigil in memory of the victims. The ceremony, set for 6:30 p.m. at the Bradley Point Park flagpole, will include representatives of the city and the police and fire departments. A half-hour later, a candlelight vigil will follow at the Richard S. Gabrielle Sept. 11 memorial on the beach walk by the Savin Rock Conference Center, 6 Rock St.

Windsor Locks

  • Sen. John A. Kissel will participate in a 9/11 remembrance ceremony at Windsor Locks Middle School, located at 7 Center Street, at 8 a.m.
