GREENWICH, Conn. (AP) — Tree trimming along Metro-North lines in Greenwich (GREN'-ich) is planned for this week in an effort to prevent power outages, a preview of a larger project in the spring along the rest of the rail line to New Haven.
The Connecticut Post reports that the state, Connecticut Light & Power and the railroad plan to start work Thursday and it will last several weeks.
JoAnn Messina of the nonprofit Greenwich Tree Conservancy says it's not clear how many trees will be cut.
Hundreds of thousands of people in Connecticut lost power after two major storms in 2011, blamed mostly on trees that knocked out lines and transmitters. CL&P was faulted for slow response times, and regulators approved a plan last month to strengthen the utility's electrical system to prevent extended outages.
