(WTNH) -- More than 10,000 customers don't have power for the coffee maker or television this morning after the storm that rattled windows and knocked down tree limbs.
The gusting winds toppled trees and power lines, and heavy rain caused some flooding along the shore.
As of 2:30 p.m. Connecticut Light & Power listed just over 10,000 outages scattered across its service area. United Illuminating reported more than 100.
The storm was so intense a tornado watch was issued for a couple of hours for Western Connecticut, but no tornado was spotted.
At one point more than 40,000 customers didn't have power.
News 8 received dozens of Report It of the conditions. The McCollum Family in Bridgeport had a tree come down on their pool. And in West Haven, we received Report It pictures after a tree fell and trapped two people inside a car near Winslow Drive and Woodmont Road. They were not seriously hurt.
The storm continued to affect Metro-North traffic. A message from the MTA at 5:00 a.m. said "New Haven Line Service continues to experience delays of 30-40 minutes in both directions due to wire damage in the vicinity of Pelham. Please listen for announcements at your station. "
Today will be much more calm. "It looks like a beautiful afternoon," said Storm Team 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons said. "It will be breezy but not nearly as windy as yesterday.".
