Conn. regulators review utilities' storm work

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut regulators say they have started reviewing how the state's two main utilities and other companies prepared for and responded to Superstorm Sandy.

The Public Utilities Regulatory Authority said Friday it will review the performance of Connecticut Light & Power and United Illuminating during and after the storm that pounded the Northeast on Oct. 29.

Regulators also will review the work by Connecticut Natural Gas Corp., Yankee Gas Services Co. and the Southern Connecticut Gas Co.

The state says post-storm investigations have been standard since Hurricane Gloria in 1985.

Standards to be reviewed include emergency planning; storm preparation; restoration of power; plans for mutual assistance; and communications with municipal and other public officials.

Regulators may order remedies and determine if sanctions are warranted.
