HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — The secretary of the state says more than 40,000 new voters have registered in Connecticut in the last three weeks as the Nov. 6 elections approach.
The total number of voters registered so far in the state is 2,026,137. The largest group is unaffiliated voters, and there are 744,729 registered Democrats, compared to 422,312 registered Republicans.
The deadline to register by mail is Oct. 23. Voters have until Oct. 30 to register to vote in-person at town or city offices.
Secretary of the State Denise Merrill has been urging people to register ahead of the elections, which feature competitive contests including the race for president and Connecticut's open U.S. Senate seat.
