New Haven, Conn. (WTNH) - 89-year-old Charlie Veits of Plymouth headed to New York City Thursday to see some big fire engines, a dream come true thanks to a local non-profit called Seniors Have Dreams Too .
"It gives them new memories," Betty Berger said. "Their lives are sometimes so mundane that they don't have anything to look forward to. And if we can do these little things for them, it just, it's such a feel good thing.""
On Charlie's agenda is touring FDNY's famous Engine Ten firehouse located near Ground Zero and tour the city's fire museum.
"Sometime, seniors are put into a home and sometime just forgotten about," said Gary Tinney of the New Haven Fire Department. "Just to let them know that we appreciate them and that they're not forgotten about."
So why out of anything in the world to choose did Charlie choose a firehouse tour? He always wanted to be a firefighter but "I never joined the fire department," he said. "I had an inferiority complex I guess."
When asked what he thought about Seniors Have Dreams Too making his wish come true Charlie said simply "I think their very nice for it.
