HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — With the multistate Mega Millions jackpot growing to $640 million, flocks of Connecticut residents are buying up tickets in a chance to win the unprecedented lottery jackpot.

Connecticut Lottery officials say the number of sales is rising Friday, after around 2,200 Mega Millions tickets were being sold each minute Thursday

Connecticut Lottery President Anne Noble Noble said typically the state sells Mega Millions tickets in the hundreds.

Since January, she said, Mega Millions ticket sales alone have added $4 to 5 million to the state's largest account.

Noble said anecdotal evidence suggests sales for Connecticut lottery games have gone up as well. She attributed the apparent rise in sales to warm weather, the launch of the state's Lucky for Life game and large jackpots.
