HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Democratic Senate candidate Chris Murphy is questioning his Republican rival's support of abortion rights, pointing to comments made by a key abortion opponent in Connecticut who says he's voting for Linda McMahon.
The Hartford Courant reports that Peter Wolfgang, executive director of the Family Institute of Connecticut, posted online that his endorsement of McMahon is "no longer accurate" after McMahon said she now supports repealing the federal Defense of Marriage Act.
Wolfgang said he's still voting for McMahon "because her victory could mean the end of Roe v. Wade," the court decision legalizing abortion. McMahon says she supports abortion rights.
Murphy said he questions what McMahon told Wolfgang to make him feel confident she could help end Roe v. Wade.
A message was left seeking comment with McMahon.
