Parking Bans

(WTNH) -- With a significant winter snowstorm forecast for Friday, many towns and cities across the state have put parking bans in place.

The following is a list of the current parking bans.

BRIDGEPORT -- Mayor Bill Finch has announced a snow emergency. During this time, no parking is allowed on snow emergency streets. Residents must move their cars off posted snow emergency streets, which are marked with white signs with red lettering. A list of snow streets can be found on the city's website .

Snow emergency parking area is available throughout the City. A full list of parking areas can be found by clicking here . Parking in the school parking lots listed will be permitted beginning Friday afternoon.

CANTON -- An overnight parking ban will be in effect from late Friday into Saturday. Additionally, the Canton Transfer Station and Library will be closed all day Saturday, February 9.

CHESHIRE -- The town of Cheshire has a parking ban in effect until further notice.

COLCHESTER -- A parking ban is in place from 10 a.m. Friday until further notice.

EAST HAVEN -- Residents are asked to removes their vehicles from the roadway; if that is impossible, vehicles should be parked on the even side of the street.

FARMINGTON -- There is a parking ban in effect on all town of Farmington roads until further notice.

GREENWICH -- Vehicles are not permitted to be parked or otherwise remain standing or stationary on posted Snow Emergency routes during a snow emergency.  Vehicles not in compliance are subject to ticketing and immediate towing.

HARTFORD -- A Level 2 Parking Ban has been issued citywide beginning at 7 a.m. on Friday, February 8, and will remain in effect until further notice. All parking on city streets is banned.

NAUGATUCK -- There is a parking ban in effect until 12 hours after the storm has stopped.

NEW BRITAIN -- Officials are alerting residents that any snowstorm forecast with accumulations of 3 inches or more will lead to a parking ban. During the anticipated parking ban, free parking will be available at the following locations:

  • Osgood Park
  • Stanley Golf Course
  • Quonset hut parking lot at 655 Slater Rd.
  • City parking lot on Main Street between NBPD and the CCSU ITBD building
  • City parking lot at Wildwood St. & Linden St. (next to Police substation)
  • Washington Park (lot opposite Gold Street)
  • Martha Hart Park
  • City parking garage (Bank St./Chestnut St.)
  • City parking garage (Columbus Blvd. at the corner of Washington St.)

NEW HAVEN -- A downtown parking ban will go into effect Friday night at 10 p.m. and will end at 9 a.m. on Saturday. The downtown parking ban encompasses the area bound by Howe Street, Tower Parkway, Grove Street, State Street and North Frontage Road.

Due to the parking ban, the Parking Authority will make the following lots and garages available, free of charge, to residents beginning at 3 p.m. today until Sunday at noon only.

  • Surface Lot at Chapel and Franklin Street
  • Surface Lot at Chestnut Street
  • Surface Lot at State and Pulaski
  • Surface Lot at Grand Avenue and East Pearl St.
  • Granite Square Garage

The following downtown Parking Authority garages will be available for residents at a discounted rate of $3 a day, beginning 3 p.m. today through noon on Sunday only.

  • Crown Street Garage
  • Temple Street Garage

Additionally, Yale University has made all of its covered lots available to residents, except for those located at Howe St. and Locke Street.

NEWINGTON -- Parking ban issued until further notice.

NORWALK -- A snow emergency has been declared in Norwalk, as a result residents are being reminded that vehicles must be removed from all snow emergency routes. To facilitate snow plowing residents are asked to remove cars from all public roadways. All public parking lots and garages are open to the public without charge until the snow emergency is lifted.
