1059 people ticketed for speeding over holiday

(WTNH) -- State police say they responded to more than 300 accidents over the July 4 holiday.

The July 4 holiday count began on Monday and ended at midnight on Wednesday.

By midnight Wednesday night., police responded to 323 accidents, 41 of which involved injuries.

Forty-five people were arrested for DUI, while 1059 drivers were ticketed for speeding. 152 people were ticketed for not wearing a seatbelt.

Police say they issued an additional 2096 tickets for other moving violations.

In 2011, police responded to 310 accidents, made 77 DUI arrests and issued 2005 speeding tickets.
