(WTNH) -- If you bought a pair of Skechers shoes that promised to get you fit just by walking around in them you may be able to get some money back.

Wednesday the Federal Trade Commission announced a settlement with Skechers over false advertising, over the company's Shape Up shoes.

The ads claimed you could wind up looking like Kim Kardashian just by wearing the sneakers around.

However, as it turns out, they don't work.

Sketchers agreed to a $40 million settlement.

And now people who bought them can get a refund.

Last year the same penalty came down on Reebok for similar sneaker claims.

If you purchased a pair of Skechers' Shape Up's and were dissatisfied with the results you can visit ftc.gov/skechers to find out how to file for a refund.
