Sandy victims have month to file with FEMA

WINDSOR, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut residents with home damage from Superstorm Sandy have one more month to file for individual disaster assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The deadline is Dec. 31.

People seeking assistance in person can visit one of the disaster recovery centers now open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.

A center in New Haven is closing at the end of business this Saturday, but seven others remain available. They are in Bridgeport, Fairfield, Greenwich, Groton, Milford, Norwalk and Old Saybrook. Homeowners or renters in counties designated for federal individual disaster assistance can visit any of them.

They can also register online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov, or with a smartphone or other Web-enabled device at m.fema.gov. They can also call FEMA at 800-621-3362, or 800-462-7585 for TTY users. Multilingual assistance is available.
