(WTNH) - Police are searching the state for a missing house appraiser who was last heard from on January 20.

The last person who heard form Steven McDermott, 42, was his son whom he called on his cell phone.

His son received a text from his father on Jan. 18 saying he "was looking forward to going to a better place."

Police say McDermott works for a house appraisal company through Allstate. He is assigned to the Connecticut area and travels extensively throughout the region.

McDermott is a white male with green eyes, standing about 5'10" tall and weighing 190 pounds.

He should be driving a black, four-door 2002 Nissan Altima with a Illinois license plate reading N746328.

Police say he has a past medical history.

McDermott was supposed to meet a man in Manchester, New Hampshire 2 weeks ago but never showed.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Connecticut State Police Troop H at 860-534-1000, or Sgt. Ben Liberatore of the Connecticut State Police Missing Persons Unit at 860-685-8658.
