(WTNH) --  Tonight many of you are sounding off about New Haven Mayor John DeStefano stepping down after 20 years in office. And a lot of you viewers are backing North Branford's decision to place armed guards in schools. Here's tonight's "Voice of the People."

Elle from Seymour said, "They have to stop saying, stop the gun violence. Gun violence among criminals will always be there. Your hardworking, law abiding citizens who own guns are not out in the street shooting one another, but the criminals are."

Margaret from Waterford said, "I think the people should stop talking and do something. I think they oughta ban the automatic rifles period. Everybody has to give up something in their life and I think that's something they should give up."

Rob from North Haven said, "Congratulations North Branford for putting armed guards in the schools. They understand that we live in a different society today and they're making actions for tomorrow."

Sandy from Waterbury said, "There is no harm in putting guards in the schools, I think it's a wonderful idea and parents can have peace of mind."

Andre from New Haven said, "I'm glad that he is stepping down, Mayor DeStefano, he did nothing for the city. With the violence and all the shootings...the tearing down of the coliseum should've never happened. It could've brought in a lot of revenue for the city."

Stacy from New Haven said, "I thought he was a good Mayor, I think he did a great job as far as building the schools and getting the kids back in the right direction."
