(WTNH) -- Starting today, Oct. 1, patients in Connecticut suffering from certain debilitating conditions can apply to receive medical marijuana. Many of you have a lot to say about this in this edition of Voice of the People.

Leona from New Haven said, "I appreciate the fact that that is going to be going into effect because certain diseases that people have, the only relief they can find it is by smoking weed, reefer, whatever you want to call it, or they have to ingest it when it's made into a food."

"I have multiple sclerosis and nothing helps...like a marijuana cigarette," said Deb from Oxford. "For 11 years I have felt like a second class citizen and have been relegated to feel like a second class citizen. By hopefully registering with the Department of Consumer Protection, I can now have access to legalized medical marijuana. Thank you Channel 8 and thank you Governor Malloy."

Politics was on the mind of Charlie of Plainfield, especially the ads on television and on the radio about Chris Murphy and Linda McMahon. "Instead of telling the people in the state what they're going to do to help us, all the two idiots do is bad mouth each other. If the people in the state could just get together and vote for neither one of them the state would be better off. And P.S., by the way, Gil Simmons you should run for Senate. You do a great job on the weather, have a great day."

"I'd like to vote for Keith Kountz, who wears the best shirts and ties on the News at 12 and News at 6," said Bethany from New Haven.
