(WTNH) -- An East Haven police officer retires before he can get fired; he plead guilty to punching a suspect and now folks are sounding off on whether or not he should get to keep his pension and unused sick and vacation time.
Kathy from Shelton said, "I do believe that that police officer should be entitled to his pension as well as any sick time or holiday pay. Because what people forget whether you're on the job for one day, 10 days or 50 years it doesn't matter, you put your life on the line when you put that badge on. He deserves whatever money he has coming to him."
Bob from East Windsor said, "I think he should get it because the ex-governor got it and they're all a bunch of crooks in this state."
Dorothy from New Haven said, "he should get the money, the Mayor allowed him to do what he's done and the Mayor's getting an award, so maybe next time when it's time to vote for a Mayor the tax payers will think about it and vote a different way."
Marco from New Haven said, "he shouldn't get the pension definitely, you do a crime you do the time, simple as that. I don't think people should be paying for that anyways. It's just injustice."
Jim from East Haven said, "they should be ashamed of themselves and they should have it done to them. The police in this town just walk around and do what they want to do just because they've got a badge on. It's not fair to the people, it's not fair to the taxpayers. It's not fair to the Italian community, the Latinos, Spanish, or Mexican. They belong here too, let's have peace and a little decency here in this town. It used to be a respectable town years ago."
