(WTNH) - If you're getting ready to send your little ghosts and gobblins out trick-or treating this Halloween you'll want to think safety.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission offers these suggestions for a safe Halloween:

  • When looking at costumes check to see they are flame resistant.
  • Get bright costumes for motorists to see.
  • For greater visibility decorate or trim costumes with reflective tape.
  • Carry a flashlight.
  • Young children should always walk with an adult or older child.
  • Advise children not to eat any treats before an adult looks over the candy.
