SOUTHINGTON, Conn. (AP) - Bank of America has opened a customer assistance center in Southington to help mortgage borrowers behind on their payments.
The Hartford Courant reports that Rebecca Mairone, the bank's national mortgage outreach executive, said being more accessible to homeowners will help prevent foreclosures.
State Attorney General George Jepsen, who had criticized the bank for failing to address complaints, praised it for being more responsive to Connecticut homeowners. In a statement posted on his website Tuesday, he said personal contacts will help resolve many customer complaints.
Customers said the bank lost documents, failed to communicate, offered conflicting and contradictory instructions and sent foreclosure notices while borrowers were being considered for a loan modification.
