Conn. to hold forum to help distressed homeowners

STORRS, Conn. (AP) — Distressed homeowners are being given another opportunity to explore options to modify their home loans and prevent foreclosure at a state-sponsored forum in Storrs.

The latest homeowners' mortgage assistance event, sponsored by the offices of the governor, attorney general and Department of Banking, is being held on Tuesday at the University of Connecticut, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Similar events were previously held in Hartford and Bridgeport. Attorney General George Jepsen said not everyone has qualified for a loan modification, but hundreds still have been able to meet with representatives of their banks to discuss their situations.

Homeowners are urged to bring various documents, including tax returns, bank statements, credit card and student loan statements, a recent utility bill, and a list of all household monthly income and expenses.
