Pawcatuck, Conn. (WTNH) - The IRS is holding an event today for businesses and families still cleaning up after last week's flooding to help them out with their taxes.
The event will help folks affected by the flooding learn how they can get extra time in filing their tax returns. And they're probably gonna need it.
The event, "IRS Filing Assistance Available to Taxpayers Affected by Recent Storms," will be at 11 a.m. at the Stonington Human Services Department. That's located at 166 South Broad St. in Pawcatuck, near Stonington High School.
Taxpayers can use Form 4868, which will be available at the event and is on the IRS's Web site, to apply for an automatic extension in filing income tax returns .
The storm dropped as much as 10 inches of rain on the same region. Hundreds of people were evacuated from their homes, basements were flooded and some state highways were water-logged. Scattered evacuations were reported in Connecticut and Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
