New Haven (WTNH) - A New Haven woman says she is being forced out of her apartment after she called the Health Department to report a problem that her landlord did not address.

Ileana Moreno rents a basement apartment on Tolli Terrace in New Haven. But it's no longer 'home sweet home.'

"It happened overnight. I woke up in the morning, I'm walking towards the refrigerator and all this is water, it's all water! My son is in the bed sleeping, I can't let him walk on this, all this is full of water," she explained.

Ileana says she went upstairs to tell her landlord, but they didn't do anything to fix the problem.

"I asked the people upstairs to come down and help me, three times. They didn't come downstairs, they didn't do anything," she said.

So Ileana decided to call the Health Department, but that's when she got even more bad news.

"They came and looked at it, they tell me it was an illegal apartment," said Ileana.

Ileana said her landlords now tell her she needs to get out of the apartment because she called the Health Department. But she's already paid her $650 rent and her landlord won't give her a dime back.

"They are saying I gotta leave right now. I don't have the money to leave. I just paid them. It's Christmas time, this is bad. This is really hard for me right now," she said. "I have no where to go now, I have a two year old son."

News Channel 8's Jamie Muro knocked on the landlord's door to get their side of the story, they didn't answer.
