New London (WTNH) - A man paid $13,000 for a landmark time share and now he has no way of using it.

New London's historic Lighthouse Inn is a pretty nice place to vacation or so Sal Cardello thought.

"It was nice. The restaurant was great. The bar was nice," he said. "The rooms were comfortable."

Last fall, the Gales Ferry man found out his $13,000 investment -- paid directly to the Lighthouse Inn in 2003 -- was just about worthless. The Inn closed and the co-owners, Christopher Plummer and Maureen Clark, are charged with failing to pay their employees.

"It was a big let down and especially when we thought it would be like for 50-years," Cardello said.

Not only can't Cardello stay at the defunct New London resort but he can't stay at any of the other RCI resorts because he has no time share to trade.

"I definitely feel cheated; big time cheated," he said.

When he tried to book another resort, he got an email saying "we are unable to accept the vacation time."

"Called a couple of lawyers in the area and they said there's really nothing I can do," Cardello said.

News Channel 8 spoke with Attorney General Richard Blumenthal who said he is going to look over Cardello's agreement with the Lighthouse Inn to see if there is anything which can be done for him.
