West Haven, Conn. (WTNH) - Folks living in a West Haven condo complex say skunks have infested their homes and they are counting on 8 for help.

You can't miss the unmistakable, overpowering odor of skunk. It lingers in the air and gets into everything.

"It's like an unbearable smell that comes you know, within the houses. It's all in your clothes, it's embedded in your clothes, said tenant Darrick Oakes. "I have three kids and they go to school and their bookbag smells like skunk."

At night, the skunks get in under the steps and burrow under the homes and start spraying. It's mating season and that makes the skunks even more active than usual.

"Nobody should have to live like that, you know, it's been reported to the landlord, it's been reported to the property manger guy and they choose not to do anything about it," said Oakes.

At least 10 units have to deal with the stinky situation.

Oakes showed us how he's tried to patch things up himself, placing rocks over the holes and plugging up the steps with concrete. But it hasn't made much of a difference.

"At this point in time, you know, we're moving out. It's no doubt about it, we're moving out," he said.

News Channel 8 called the property manager, but didn't get an answer.
