Hartford, Conn. (WTNH) - Two dancers that are in 'Lil Wayne's show made their first appearance here in Hartford Superior Court today, and actually they may get some good news. Their charges , eventually, could be dropped.
Della Hamby, 26, and Jennifer Slaughter, 24, both dancers, probably didn't think this was the way they'd spend their day in Hartford when the Lil Wayne concert tour made it's stop in the capital city.
But here they are, represented by local attorney James Sulick.
Sulick said, "They're both great young ladies, both college graduates, both from great families, unified familes, everybody is working. They've been employed as professional dancers for quite awhile now. I've met them they just seem like nice young ladies and are sorry to be in the middle of this thing."
"This thing" would the arrest of the two women after an alleged attack at a Chinese restaurant.
Police say Hamby and Slaughter cursed at a waitress at P.F. Changs in West Hartford for not splitting the check. What started as threats became physical. Emotions spilled over, as one of them pulled the waitresses hair, another, punching her. Both were charged with third degree assault, but the state's attorney recommended mediation, which may expunge their records.
Sulick said, "It's not uncommon for this courthouse to recommend that program for a variety of misedeamonor cases."
The two backup dancers were supposed to dance at the Comcast Theatre Wednesday night for opening of the 'Lil Wayne tour.
Sulick said, " They were employed to perform, this incident has caused that not to occur tonight, they're hoping to resolve it and get back to their lives soon."
The case goes before a judge again in August.
