NEW LONDON, Conn. (WTNH) -- A family grieves and a neighborhood worries after a New London man was attacked right on his front porch.
"It frightens everybody in the projects," said Abner Beauchamp. "It puts fear in other people's lives."
"Does it make people around here feel unsafe," asked News 8's Tina Detelj.
"Back there, back there yes," Maria Rivera answered.
"Back there" is this public housing complex on Huntington Street where police say the 34-year-old Hispanic man was stabbed. Some describe it as a huge slice to his abdomen, a wound which would later turn fatal.
"It took place in front of the building and it escalated and went inside the front entrance of the apartment," said New London Deputy Chief Peter Reichard.
"Was he trying to flee the attackers," Detelj asked.
"We're still working on that part right now."
The men then fled on foot after the 10:30 Wednesday night attack. Neighbors say the victim was a father of five.
"At the present time we don't have information if he knows his attackers at all, but we're looking at it as not a random act of violence," Reichard said. "So people can look at it as they're probably safe walking down the street. He was more or less targeted by the people."
"I hope they catch the guys that hurt this person," said Teddy Owens, who works in New London.
Police do not have any suspects and are hoping surveillance video and tips from the public will help them track down the killers.
Anyone who may have information is asked to contact Detectives at the New London Police Department at (860)447-1481.
