GREENWICH, Conn. (WTNH) -- Greenwich Police arrested a 19-year-old for stealing a bicycle then robbing a victim at gunpoint.
On Nov. 19 around 1:30 p.m. a metallic red bicycle was stolen from the back of the CVS Pharmacy at 120 Post Road in Cos Cob. An American bandana was attached to the handle bars and a blue bandana was tied to the frame.
Around 8:00 p.m. that same day, police responded to the report of an armed robbery.
Lamar Lawrence, of 130 Sylvan Avenue Apt. #202 in New Haven, was charged for both incidents.
The armed robbery victim told police that they were walking west on Fairfield Road when they were approached from behind by a male on a bike who showed a silver handgun and told them to lay down on the sidewalk.
The suspect ordered the victim to hand over his money and cell phone. The suspect stole a silver iPod Nano and drivers license, police reported.
A witness stopped and got out of their car when they saw the bike in the middle of the road and believed an accident had happened. The victim told police that when the witness got out of the car the suspect told him to act natural, returned his license and jumped onto his bike and fled the area.
Both the victim and witness described the suspect as a white male, 5'8'', 170 lbs., wearing a light blue hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and a blue or black bandana across his face.
Investigators developed information about a possible suspect and saw a male that fit the description pedal up the driveway of a home on Sinawoy Road. Invetigators searched the house and located a loaded silver pistol, clothing matching those worn by the suspect and the stolen bicycle.
Lawrence lied to officers and gave a false name.
After identifying Lawrence, he was charged with first-degree robbery, criminal possession of a firearm, interfering with an officer, sixth-degree larceny, and risk of injury.
Court date is set for Nov. 28 at Stamford Superior Court.
