Police are investigating two New Britain bank robberies that may have involved the same suspect on Friday.
Around 11:30 a.m., a man entered Webster Bank on Main Street carrying a duffle bag. He gave the teller a note demanding money and threatened to cause physical harm, police say. The suspect then left with an undisclosed amount of money that the teller put in the duffle bag.
Witnesses say he got into a pickup truck parked in the New Brite Plaza and drove away in an unknown direction. Witnesses also say that a red cloud surrounded the suspect before he got into the truck, indicating that the dye pack the teller dropped into the duffle bag when putting the money in it exploded.
The suspect was described as a white male wearing a black hat, sunglasses and black and yellow jacket.
Later in the afternoon around 1:04 p.m., another bank robbery occurred at the TD North bank located on Main Street in New Britain. The male suspect handed the teller a note demanding money and threatening harm. The man then left with an undisclosed amount of money. A K-9 track was conducted but to no avail.
The suspect of this robbery was described as being a thin white male in his 40's or 50's, wearing a red jacket and black hate. The suspect's physical description was very similar to that of the suspect of the Webster Bank robbery that took place earlier in the day.
No one was injured at either bank robbery and no weapons were displayed. Anyone with information is asked to contact New Britain Police at (860) 826-3065.
